If you have committed or been convicted of a crime, you may not be allowed into Canada. This includes both minor and serious crimes, such as:

•    Theft,
•    Assault,
•    Manslaughter,
•    Dangerous driving,
•    Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and
•    Having or trafficking in drugs or controlled substances.

What You Can Do
Depending on the crime, how long ago it was and how you have behaved since, you may still be allowed to come to Canada, if you:

•    Convince an immigration officer that you meet the legal terms to be deemed rehabilitated, or Applied for rehabilitation and were approved, or

•    Were granted a record suspension or
•    Have a temporary resident permit.

Each immigration program has its own timeline and can range from a few months to a few years from the time of application submission.  We make sure your application is sent quickly with minimum delay.

No. You can be in your home country and apply through the immigration offices there.  Using skype and email, we are able to help you submit your application online.

Canada tries to promote immigration of people between the ages of 18-45.  However, age is only part of the eligibility criteria and many immigrants older and younger have entered Canada.  Please take our free assessment (hyperlink) and we can discuss the immigration programs that are the best fit for you.

The Express Entry points system looks at factors such as age, level of education, Canadian experience, arranged employment and provincial nominations.  The maximum number are 1,200 points, however you can be invited to apply for a Permanent Resident Visa with as low as 450 points.
An applicant can get extra points for:

•    a job offer supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment, or
•    a nomination by a province or territory

These added points will make a candidate rank high enough to be invited to apply at the next eligible draw of candidates.
Candidates can stay in the pool for up to 12 months. If they do not get an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence within 12 months of submitting an Express Entry profile, they may submit a new profile.

An International student in Canada who studies full-time, is allowed to work without a work permit 20 hours per week while studying and can work full-time while during school breaks.

Upon graduation, an international student can apply for a Post-Graduate Work Permit.  With this permit,  the student qualifies to apply for a Permanent Resident Visa under the Canadian Experience Class.

The cost varies depends on the immigration program you apply to. However, the fees will be divided into:

•    Government processing fees
•    Police check in every country you lived in for more than six months since the age of 18
•    Language assessment
•    Medical exam fees
•    Fees for the translation of documents – if needed
•    Cost of mailing the application

If you are getting the help from an immigration lawyer or an immigration consultant, you will need to add their fees as well.  At Doorway To Canada, we give you excellent service at very reasonable rates.

Immigration Myths or Mistaken Beliefs

You can only immigrate to Canada if:

•    You have a relative living there
When you have relatives in Canada, you will get more points on your immigration profile. Many people have immigrated to Canada successfully without having any family members living here

•    You can only immigrate to Canada if you are rich
While the investor program specifies the need for a substantial investment, most immigration programs to Canada only ask for the minimum necessary income to establish yourself. Please contact us if you would like to know the minimum income level for you and your family.

You do not have to show that you have these funds if:

  • You have a valid offer of arranged employment  in Canada AND
  • You are currently working or authorized to work in Canada.

For some immigration programs such spousal sponsorship, refugees, and immigrating with a job offer, your financial situation is not critical for getting immigration approval.

•    A family member needs to have connections to sponsor me
Every immigration program has specific requirements and eligibility criteria. If you qualify to immigrate to Canada you do NOT need connections.  You just need to complete the application, pay the fees and send it to the proper address.  Everyone is served equally in his or her turn. We can help you complete your application to ensure maximum effectiveness

•    I need to speak fluent English or French
While knowing one of the official languages of Canada, either English or French, is mandatory, you do not have to be fluent. However, the better your language skills, the more points you will get on your immigration profile. To test your ability in our official languages, take the IELTS, or CELPIP test for English and the TEF for French.

•    I have to live outside Canada to apply
Immigration programs allow you to apply either inside or outside Canada.  If you are a visitor to Canada and want to apply to immigrate from within the country, contact us and we can help you decide the best way to proceed.
